Difficulty in MT-32 music (general)

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to implement MT-32 music in ScummVM, specifically for Monkey Island 2 (though Beneath a Steel Sky has the same issue). I have two ROMs, MT32_CONTROL.ROM (66kb) and MT32_PCM.ROM (524kb). These work fine in games on Boxer (a DOSBox fork for Mac) for the games that use them, and the size of the file on the source where I obtained it was 512kb (524,288 bytes). In any case, I wanted an alternate sound source to replace the iMuse default tracks (it was the Mac version), which as of v1.6.0 (yes, it's an older version, I do want to make sure it works before transferring to a new computer) crashes or reverts to iMuse, which I don't like because of the relatively "soft" sound and the static noise in the background (likely due to an emulation issue). What am I doing wrong?
